_ ぱでぃさんの多情多根日記（4／10）を読んでいたら、『東京タワー』が受賞した第三回本屋大賞に異議を唱えておられて、「雪雪さんあたりはどう思っているのか、ご意見を聞いてみたいです」って、いきなり自分の名前が出てきてびっくり致しました。
_ 候補作を全部読むという規定を守れそうにないので、ぼくは本屋大賞に投票したことはありません。今回の候補作もほとんど読んでいません（接客のための商品知識は各方面のレヴューから仕入れてありますが）。『東京タワー』も読んでおりませんので、ぼくにはとやかく言う資格がない。
その上で言えることは、書店員はリアルにお客様に接しているがゆえ、「これなら、『おすすめのあれ、良かったよう』と言ってもらえるだろう」という観点が入る。それはプロですからね。顧客満足度を考慮します。ぼくだって「最近なんかおもしろいのない？」と尋ねられたとき、迷わず自分の本年度ベスト１を薦めるかというとそうではない。お客様にとってのベスト１と目されるものを薦められるよう努力します。
そういう慣習は書店員の鑑識眼に微妙に傾斜を付ける。職業意識というよりむしろ職業無意識によって。
本屋大賞でも意識的にか無意識的にか、顧客満足度の平均点が最も高いであろう作品に有利なバイアスが働いたと推測されます（そのバイアスは、ぱでぃさんの推す古川日出夫を支援しないでしょう）。
_ あれあれ？ しかし『本屋大賞2006』のレヴューを読むと、ほとんどみんな本気ですねｗ これは「すでに売れてはいるんだけどそれでもなおもっと売りたい本」だったということなのでしょう。それほどまでに売りたかったと。
すごい力のある本なのだな『東京タワー』。ぼくは涙もろいので、読んだらきっと泣いてしまうと思う。
それにしても受賞作に限らずレヴューが熱いなあ。みんな自分の感性を信じているのですね。「あのヒトに出会えてほんとうによかった！」話を聞いてるみたいな。たまに引いた視線のレヴューがあると、ほっとするくらいで。
いえ、平素は熱いレヴューも大歓迎なのです。けど、これだけそろいもそろって熱いとなんだか呆然としてきます。

いずれにしても候補作を全部読むという規定は暇と金のない書店員にとってはけっして低いハードルではないし、それをクリアするということは志の高さと誠実さのあらわれだと思いますから、その投票結果には尊重すべき価値があると思っています。
_ あ、ぱでぃさんの3月11日の日記に『手紙魔まみ、夏の引越し（ウサギ連れ）』の画像が出てますね（話飛んでるし）。
大塚英志『キャラクター小説の作り方』のなかで『まみ』に言及して、これは著者穂村弘の女性人格のキャラクター化でむろん実在の人物ではないという意味のことが書いてありましたが、さいわい今のところ実在しますねまみさん。
