物語としておもしろくないわけではないけど、含まれる思想的な部分をまんま思想として読みとってしまう。で、ル・グィンは好きな思想家だ、などと思う。
「言の葉の樹」では、主人公の文化人類学者の女性がある地方に滞在して、そこの人々における「祈り」について、以下のように考える。
